THE month of November last year was reported as unusually mild and warm, the mean temperature being nearly 7 degrees above that of 1816. This season, however, it has been even higher by nearly 2 degrees. This difference is chiefly owing to the absence of frost during the night, the mean of the greatest daily heat being only about half a degree Compared with October, the temperature has gradually dehigher than that of last year. clined, though not so rapidly as might have been expected, the difference of the average During the night the thermometer generally stood above being only about 44 degrees. 40, and sometimes as high as 50. The temperature has also been unusually steady, the difference between the highest and lowest in 24 hours being frequently no more than 2 or 3 degrees, and on one occasion only a single degree. The fluctuations of the barometer, with the exception of a few days about the middle of the month, have been moderate, and the average height is nearly the same as last year. The quantity of rain exceeds that of October by about an inch, and that of November last year by 3-10ths. The average of Leslie's hygrometer is upwards of 2 degrees lower than that of October; but if allowance be made for the difference of temperature, the relative dryness of the atmosphere was nearly the same in both. The mean of the maximum and minimum temperature, contrary to what usually takes place, is lower than that of ten o'clock morning and evening; but the difference (2-10ths of a degree) is so small, that the two may be considered as absolutely coIt is a reinciding. The coincidence between the mean point of deposition, and the mean minimum temperature, is equally striking, the difference being only 1-10th of a degree. markable fact, that on the 19th of the month, the barometer remained so steady during the whole 24 hours, that three observations, viz. at ten o'clock morning and evening of the At ten o'clock on the evening of 19th, and ten o'clock on the morning of the 20th, agreed to the 1000th part of an inch the height of the mercury at each period being 29.750. the 20th, it had risen only 7-1000ths, and about 8-1000ths by the morning of the 21st. The month altogether has been very different from what is usually experienced at this season. The fields are at this moment clothed with all the verdure of spring.
