PREFACE.

IN sending this little work to the press the writer is influenced by the hope that it may be useful to those young persons who consider that they require a form of prayer to assist them in their devotions; and also to those who are placed in circumstances which give them little time at their own disposal; and have consequently difficulty in securing any to spend in the most important of all duties—namely, reading God's Word; and seeking by prayer His Spirit and guidance.

By the regular use of this manual for even a few months; seventy precious texts of Scripture will be impressed on the memory; and these, it is hoped, will lead to the desire for increased knowledge of, and deeper search into, the rich and exhaustless mine from which they are taken; and it is also hoped that the constant use of the prayers, if uttered from the heart and not by the lips only, will bring such an answer from the Throne of Grace; that, in a short time, the hearts of those who offer them will be
