THE favor which the first part of the COLLOQUIAL FRENCH DRILL has found with both students and instructors, the reiterated demands to give it a sequel, and the wants of the classes under my charge in the Normal College have induced me to prepare and bring out a second part. It is composed of a variety of exercises designed for practical instruction in French of a higher grade than those contained in Part I., and new, I think, in matter and form. There are four different series of them. The first contains twelve lessons of subject-matter, to be used for reading, translating, and colloquial practice. They treat of familiar topics, and are intended to enrich the vocabulary for common conversation. Some of them are followed by models of little useful and suggestive exercises, such as any instructor can multiply ad libitum, if necessary. The last two lessons are practical illustrations of the difficulties encountered in the use of the Past tenses and of the Subjunctive mood.
