Jesus, which is taken up from you into heaven, shall so come in like manner as ye have seen him go int› heaven.

The Collect.

ALMIGHTY and everlasting God, who on this day didst glorify Thy Son Jesus, by receiving Him up into heaven, and setting Him at Thine own right hand, far above all principality, and power, and might, and dominion, and every name that is named, not only in this world, but also in that which is to come; work in us, we beseech Thee, such firm and abiding faith in this mystery as may raise us in heart and mind above all things here below, to dwell with Christ in heavenly places, and to possess in Him our true life; so that when He shall appear again, according to His word, we also may appear with Him in glory everlasting: to whom, with Thee and the Holy Ghost, be all worship and praise, world without end. Amen.

The Festival Prayer.

O LORD Jesus Christ, Thou conqueror of death and hell, who from the depths of Thy humiliation didst pass into the heavens, and art crowned with glory and honor as King of saints and eternal High Priest over the house of God; let Thy all-powerful intercessions prevail on our behalf, that, being delivered from the curse of sin, we may receive grace and strength to follow Thee with patient endurance through the sorrows and pains of earth and the darkness of the grave, and, having thus shared in Thy sufferings here, become partakers also of Thy joy and glory in the everlasting kingdom of the Father. Amen.

Sunday after Ascension Day-Exaudi.

The Gospel, St. John xv. 26—xvi. 1. (St. John vii. 33–39.) But when the Comforter is come, whom I will send unto you from the Father, even the Spirit of truth, which proceedeth from the Father, he shall testify of me: and ye also shall bear witness, because ye have been with me from the beginning. These things have I spoken unto you, that ye should not be offended.

The Epistle, 1 Pet. iv. 7–11. (Acts xix. 1–7.)

But the end of all things is at hand: be ye therefore sober, and watch unto prayer. And above all things have fervent charity among yourselves: for charity shall cover the multitude of sins. Use hospitality one to another without grudging. As every man hath received the gift, even so minister the same one to another, as good stewards of the manifold grace of God. If any man speak, let him speak as the oracles of God; if any man minister, let him do it as of the ability which God giveth: that God in all things may be glo. rified through Jesus Christ, to whom be praise and dominion for ever and ever. Amen.

The Collect.

O God, the King of glory, who through the resurrection and ascension of our Lord Jesus Christ. hast opened the kingdom of heaven to all believers; leave us not orphans, we beseech Thee, in our weary mortal state, but send unto us the Holy Ghost, the Comforter; who may guide us always in the way of truth and peace, and bring us in the end to those mansions of rest in which Christ now dwells and reigns: to

whon, with Thee and the Holy Ghost, be honor and glory, world without end.

Amen.

Whitsunday-Pentecost.

The Gospel, St. John xiv. 15–31. (Joel ii. 28–32.)

If ye love me, keep my commandments. And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you forever; even the Spirit of truth; whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth him not, neither knoweth him: but ye know him; for he dwelleth with you, and shall be in you. I will not leave you comfortless: I will come to you. Yet a little while, and the world seeth me no more; but ye see me: because I live, ye shall live also. At that day ye shall know that I am in my Father, and ye in me, and I in you. He that hath my commandments, and keepeth. them, he it is that loveth me: and he that loveth me shall be loved of my Father, and I will love him, and will manifest myself to him. Judas saith unto him, not Iscariot, Lord, how is it that thou wilt manifest thyself unto us, and not unto the world? Jesus answered and said unto him, If a man love me, he will keep my words: and my Father will love him, and we will come unto him, and make our abode with him. He that loveth me not, keepeth not my sayings: and the word which ye hear is not mine, but the Father's which sent me. These things have I spoken unto you, being yet present with you. But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you. Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid. Ye have heard how I said unto you, I go away, and come again unto

you. If ye loved me, ye would rejoice, because I said, I go unto the Father: for my Father is greater than I. And now I have told you before it come to pass, that, when it is come to pass, ye might believe. Hereafter I will not talk much with you: for the prince of this world cometh, and hath nothing in me. But that the world may know that I love the Father; and as the Father gave me commandment, even so I do. Arise, let us go hence.

The Epistle, Acts ii. 1–11. (Acts ii. 22–41.)

And when the day of Pentecost was fully come, they were all with one accord in one place. And suddenly there came a sound from heaven as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled all the house where they were sitting. And there appeared unto them cloven tongues like as of fire, and it sat upon each of them. And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance. And there were dwelling at Jerusalem Jews, devout men, out of every nation under heaven. Now when this was noised abroad, the multitude came together, and were confounded, because that every man heard them speak in his own language. And they were all amazed and marvelled, saying one to another, Behold, are not all these which speak Galileans? and how hear we every man in our own tongue, wherein we were born? Parthians, and Medes, and Elamites, and the dwellers in Mesopotamia, and in Judea, and Cappadocia, in Pontus, and Asia, Phrygia, and Pamphylia, in Egypt, and in the parts of Libya about Cyrene, and strangers of Rome, Jews and proselytes, Cretes and Arabians, we do hear them speak in our tongues the wonderful works of God.

The Collect.

God of all peace and consolation, who didst gloriously fulfill the great promise of the Gospel, by sending dowr. Thy Holy Ghost on the day of Pentecost,

to establish the Church as the home of his continual presence and power among men; mercifully grant unto us, we beseech Thee, this same gift of the Spirit, to renew, illuminate, refresh, and sanctify our dying souls, to be over us and around us like the light and dew of heaven, and to be in us evermore as a well of water springing up into everlasting life; through Jesus Christ our Lord, to whom with Thee, and the Holy Ghost, ever one God, be honor and glory, world without end. Amen.

The Festival Prayer.

O HOLY Ghost, Spirit of the Father and the Son, who by Thy quickening energy hast raised us up to a new life in Christ Jesus, and dost in mercy to our infirmities condescend to dwell in our mortal bodies as Thy consecrated temples; bring forth in our hearts and lives, we beseech Thee, the fruits of love, joy, peace, long-suffering, gentleness, faith, meekness and temperance; that so walking in Thee with all holy obedience we may stand firm in the knowledge and love of the truth against the wiles of the Devil, overcome the world, and be glorified in the fellowship of the Father and the Son: to whom with Thee who art coequal and coeternal God, we ascribe all honor, thanksgiving and praise. Amen.

The Gospel, St. John iii. 16–21. (St. John iv. 13–24.)

For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but
