But the publication of a second issue of this work within the same year that the first edition appeared gives the writer the opportunity of recording a grateful note of praise to the Almighty, Everlasting God of Israel, for the favour and blessing which He has already caused to rest on this inadequate effort to elucidate His sacred oracles, and to set forth some of the glories of Him of Whom Moses in the law and "all the prophets, from Samuel and those that follow after," have testified. Many appreciative letters have reached me, thankfully acknowledging help in the understanding of the Scriptures, and spiritual profit received from the perusal of these pages.
