Students who wish to make a careful study of La Fontaine's fables are referred to the editions of Regnier or Clément in French or to the scholarly edition of Lubarsch in German, to which the editor here acknowledges his special obligations. There is a complete, although rather inferior, edition with English notes in the Hachette series of French Classics.
