July 31st.

But take heed lest by any means this liberty of your's become a stumbling block to them that are weak. And through thy knowledge shall the weak brother perish, for whom Christ died? But when ye sin so against the brethren, and wound their weak conscience, ye sin against Christ. Wherefore, if meat make my brother to offend, I will eat no flesh while the world standeth, lest I make my brother to offend.- 1 COR. viii. 9, 11, 12, 13.

"Am I my brother's keeper? Yes! Bound by all social ties,

Which link us to our fellow-man,

Can we his soul despise?

Then from each dangerous draught abstain,
That we our brother's soul may gain."

August 1st.

Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked one. EPHES. vi. 16.

"The Christian warrior, see him stand
In the whole armour of his God:
The Spirit's sword is in his hand;
His feet are with the Gospel shod,
In panoply of truth complete,

Salvation's helmet on his head,

With righteousness, a breastplate meet,

And faith's broad shield before him spread."

August 2nd.

He brought me to the banqueting-house, and his banner over me was love.-CANT. ii. 4.

August 3rd.

What? know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own? for ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God's.-1 COR. vi. 19, 20.

"We are not our own, to live and die,
Catching at pleasures as they fly;

We are not our own-when a mighty crowd
Cries with a voice all deep and loud,

'We perish! we perish! oh give us bread :
'Fill us, and feed us as you have been fed;'
Turn not away from the sigh and the moan;
Remember, oh man, thou art not thine own.'

August 4th.

For Christ also hath once suffered for sins, the just for the unjust, that he might bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh, but quickened by the Spirit. -1 PETER iii. 18.

August 5th.

I exhort therefore, that, first of all, supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks, be made for all men; for kings, and for all that are in authority; that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and honesty. For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Saviour.-1 TIM. ii. 1, 2, 3.

"The feeblest hand may be raised in prayer, The Dove is on the wing;

'Tis a labour of love-sustain her flight, And Truth shall spread as a flood of light Through nations benighted, o'er regions rare, Oh! herald her coming, prepare-prepare,'

August 6th.

And walk in love, as Christ also hath loved us, and hath given himself for us an offering and a sacrifice to God for a sweetsmelling savour. -EPHES. V. 2.

August 7th.

:

And I will give peace in the land, and ye shall lie down, and none shall make you afraid and I will rid evil beasts out of the land, neither shall the sword go through your land.-LEV. xxvi. 6.

"War spirit! war spirit! go down to thy place, With the demons that thrive on the woes of our race;

Call back thy strong legions of madness and pride,

Bid the rivers of blood thou hast opened be dried;

Let thy league with the grave and Aceldama cease,

And yield the torn world to the Angel of Peace."

August 8th.

For we know him that hath said, Vengeance belongeth unto me, I will recompense, saith the Lord. And again, The Lord shall judge his people. It is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God.HEB. X. 30, 31.
