AROUND the throne of God in heaven

Thousands of children stand;

Children whose sins are all forgiven,
A holy, happy band.

Singing glory, glory, glory be to God
on high.

2 What brought them to that world above,
That heaven so bright and fair,
Where all is peace, and joy, and love-
How came those children there?

3 Because the Saviour shed His blood
To wash away their sin;

Bathed in that pure and precious flood,
Behold them white and clean.

4 On earth they sought their Saviour's grace,
On earth they loved His name

So now they see His blessèd face,
And stand before the Lamb.

Shepherd.

RESURRECTION.

"As for me, I will behold Thy presence in righteousness, and when I awake up after Thy likeness I shall be satisfied with it."-PSALM xvii. 16.

[blocks in formation]

1 JESUS, my Redeemer, lives,

Christ, my trust, is dead no more;

In the strength this knowledge gives,

Shall not all my fears be o'er ?

Calm, though death's long night be fraught Still with many an anxious thought.

2 Jesus, my Redeemer, lives,
And His life I soon shall see ;
Bright the hope this promise gives,
Where He is I too shall be:
Shall I fear then? can the Head
Rise and leave the members dead?

3 Close to Him my soul is bound,
In the bonds of hope enclasp'd;
Faith's strong hand this hold hath found,
And the Rock hath firmly grasp'd ;
And no ban of death can part
From our Lord the trusting heart.

4 I shall see Him with these eyes,
Him whom I shall surely know ;
Not another shall I rise,

With His love this heart shall glow ;
Only there shall disappear
Weakness in and round me here.

5 Ye who suffer, sigh, and moan,
Fresh and glorious there shall reign;
Earthly here the seed is sown,
Heavenly it shall rise again;
When the final trump is heard,
And the deaf cold grave is stirred.

6 Only see ye that your heart
Rise betimes from earthly lust;
Would ye there with Him have part,
Here obey your Lord, and trust.
Fix your hearts beyond the skies,
Whither ye yourselves would rise.

SOON

P.M.

and for ever the breaking of day Shall chase all the night-clouds of sorrow away;

Soon and for ever we'll see as we're seen, And know the deep meaning of things that have been,

Where fightings without us and conflicts within Shall weary no more in the warfare with sinWhere tears and where fears and where death shall be never,

Christians with Christ shall be soon and for ever.

2 Soon and for ever, such promise our trust, Though ashes to ashes, and dust be to dust, Soon and for ever our union shall be

Made perfect, our glorious Redeemer, in Thee; When cares and the sorrows of time shall be o'er,

Its pangs and its partings remembered no

more

Where life cannot fail and where death cannot

sever,

Christians with Christ shall be, soon and for

ever.

3 Soon and for ever the work shall be done, The warfare accomplished, the victory won, Soon and for ever the soldier lay down

The sword for a harp and the cross for a crown. Then droop not in sorrow, despond not in fear, A glorious to-morrow is brightening and near, When-blessèd reward for each faithful endeavour

Christians with Christ shall be, soon and for Monsell.

ever.

TEN

7.6.8.6.

1 TEN thousand times ten thousand,
In sparkling raiment bright,
The armies of the ransomed saints
Throng up the steeps of light:
'Tis finished, all is finished,

Their fight with death and sin;
Fling open wide the golden gates,
And let the victors in.

2 What rush of Hallelujahs
Fills all the earth and sky;
What ringing of a thousand harps
Bespeaks the triumph nigh!
O day! for which creation

And all its tribes were made;
O joy! for all its former woes
A thousand-fold repaid!

3 Bring near Thy great salvation,
Thou Lamb for sinners slain,
Fill up the roll of Thine elect,
Then take Thy power and reign.
Appear, Desire of Nations,

Thine exiles long for home;

Show in the heavens Thy promised sign;
Thou Prince and Saviour, come!

the chariot! its wheels roll

As the Lord cometh down in the pomp of

His ire;

Self-moving, it drives on its pathway of cloud, And the heavens with the burden of Godhead are bowed.

2 The glory! the glory! By myriads are poured The hosts of the angels to wait on their Lord; And the glorified saints, and the martyrs are there,

And all who the palm-wreath of victory wear. 3 The trumpet! the trumpet! The dead have all heard;

Lo! the depths of the stone-covered charnels are stirred;

From the sea, from the land, from the south and the north,

The vast generations of man are come forth. 4 The judgment the judgment ! the thrones are all set,

Where the Lamb and the white-vested elders are met;

All flesh is at once in the sight of the Lord,

And the doom of eternity hangs on His word. 50 Heaven! O Heaven! the gates are flung wide,

And the King enters in, with His saints at His side;

Then our toils will be past, and our sins all forgiven,

When our purified souls find a mansion in Heaven!

WE

L.M.

Milman.

E sing His love, who once was slain, Who soon o'er death revived again, That all His saints through Him might have Eternal conquests o'er the grave.

2 The saints who now in Jesus sleep
His own almighty power shall keep,
Till dawns the bright illustrious day,
When death itself shall die away.
