DERIVATIVE TENSES.

Donner, to give, to grant, to bestow, to offer, to produce, to supply, etc.

All regular verbs of the Conjugation in er are conjugated after this manner.

In the modern conjugation the stem is maintained entire and is distinct from the termination.

However, some verbs in er undergo some changes either in the consonant or in the vowel of the stem.

Céder

To cede

To yield

é acute in the last syllable of the stem.

Verbs ending in the Infinitive with an é acute in the last syllable of the stem, like Céder (to cede), change the é acute into è grave before the terminations e, es, ent.

Je cède

Tu cèdes

Il cède
Ils cèdent

In all the other tenses, and even in the Future and the Conditional, they keep the é acute.

Je céderai

Je céderais

All verbs in er ending in the Infinitive by the following terminations undergo this change:

to patch

écer

écher

écrer

rapi écer
s écher
ex écrer

to dry

to execrate

Verbs in éger. All verbs in er ending in the Infinitive by éger, as assiéger (to besiege), keep the é acute all through the conjugation:

e mute in the syllable penultima of the stem.

to supply

Verbs ending in the Infinitive with an e mute in the syllable penultima of the stem, like amener (to lead), change this e mute into an e grave before the terminations

e, es, ent, erai, erais

Il amène

Ils amènent

J'amènerai
J'amènerais

All verbs in er ending in the Infinitive by the following terminations undergo the same changes:
