of one who served it so well and who died in its service. His funeral took place from his late residence at Mauch Chunk on Thursday afternoon, and was attended by a large concourse of sorrowing relatives, friends and Brothers. Chief Engineer D. A. Scudder, attended with his Division No. 124, B. of L. E., wearing badges. Among the number present were Mahlon S. Miller, Daniel Scudder, Samuel E. Cole, Dory Van Vlick, R. G. White, R. A. Williams, W. H. Fulton, Henry Brelsford, Wm. Potter, Douglas McLean, R. G. Groover, Henry Neill, Frank Diehur, James Wildoner, Frank Shillinger, Edward Klotz, Wm. Kemerer, Albert Sitler and others. S. C. Braslow, Master Mechanic, and Philip A. Street, traveling engineer, and David Ross, train master, were also present. The funeral services were feelingly and touchingly performed by the Rev. Mr. Yeakel, of the Evangelical Church, and well did he remark in closing his sad rites at the grave, that when an engineer stepped upon his engine he was stepping into his shroud. Assistant Superintendent Polhemus did all in his power to so arrange the running of the trains on the day of the funeral as to allow the engineers to be LOGANSPORT, CASS CO., IND., Dec. 10, 1877. Died at her residence in Logansport, Cass Co., Ind., Mrs. Jesse Mulford, the wife of our esteemed Bro. Jesse Mulford. After serving as twain for twenty two years, she departed this life at the age of 44 years, 5 months and 15 days. She was an affectionate wife and a kind mother. She leaves a bereaved husband, five daughters, and a host of friends to mourn her loss. The remains were laid quietly away be neath the bending shadows of the Wilson monument, in Spring Grove Cemetery, Ohio. The follow. ing beautiful lines have been selected as a last farewell. BY M. M. She is safe in the harbor, Her white sails are furled, Life's anchor is cast by the evergreen shore; She is living now In God's beautiful world, Our loved and our lost one Will sorrow no more. How near to this earth home, Yet how distant it seems; Away-far away in the violet glow, Across the wide waste of wild, mourn ful dreams, Unthinking of us is she resting? Ah, no! Our loved and our lost one Is with us, we know. Yea, here by the home-hearth, A breath of her presence drifts through the dim days: It comes, swift as thought DES MOINES, IOWA, 1977. Dedicated to Charlie H. Russell, only son ofG. W. and Jennie A. Russell, age eleven years and nine months. Died December 1, 187, of Heart Disease. The bereaved family mourn him sincerely, as also do the friends of the deceased. He has crossed the dark and silent river, That we no more his face shall see? He is lying now so cold and still, His hands are clasped o'er a pulseless heart; Pale is the brow of delicate mold, Soon to be lain in the cold, dark grave. He is dead! oh, no, not dead But sleeping, the sweet and peaceful sleep That wakes in a world beyond. Kind friends, in all this deep distress, Oh, let us breathe no bitterness. God took him, and it must be well, Forever past thy duties here. A little longer shall we live and wait, Oh Lord! though hard it be, thy will be done. 14-UTICA, N. Y., meets alternate Mondays at 9 M.
