11. The Destruction of Sodom. Now the sin of Sodom and Gomorrah was very great. And there came two angels to Sodom at even: and Lot prayed them to tarry in his house, and they came into him and did eat.

But the men of Sodom compassed the house round, both old and young, to de violence to the two angels; and they pressed upon Lot, and sought to break the door. Then the angels smote the men of Sodom with blindness, both small and great, so that they could not find the door.

And the angels said unto Lot, "Because the sin of this place is very great, the Lord hath sent us to destroy it. And when it was morning,

the angels hastened Lot, saying, "Arise, take thy wife and thy two daughters, look not behind you." And they laid hold of the hands of him, his wife and daughters, the Lord being merciful unto him; and they brought him forth, and set him without the city.

Then the Lord rained upon Sodom and Gomorrah brimstone and fire, from Heaven: and he overthrew those cities, and all the plain, and the inhabitants of the cities. But Lot's wife looked back from behind him; and she became a pillar of salt. 12. God promises a Son to Abraham: Isaac is born.

And when Abraham was ninety years old and nine, God appeared to him, and

said, "Sarah thy wife shall bear thee a son, and thou shalt call his name Isaac: and I will establish my covenant with him and with his seed after him.

blessed

And the Lord Sarah as he had said; and Sarah conceived, and bare unto Abraham a son in his old age, at the appointed time, as the Lord had spoken to him. And Abraham called the name of his son, which Sarah bare to him Isaac. Now Abraham was an hundred years old when Isaac was born. And the child grew and was weaned: and Abraham made a great feast, on the day that Isaae was weaned.

13. The Trial of Abraham's Faith. And it came to pass after these things, that God tried the faith of Abraham: and said unto him, "Take now thy son, thine only son Isaac, whom thou lovest; and get thee into the land of Moriah, and offer him there, for a burnt offering, upon one of the mountains, which I will direct thee to."

And Abraham rose up early in the morning, and saddled his ass; and took two of his young men, and Isaac his son, and went to the place which the Lord had appointed. And when he saw the place afar off, he said to the young men, "Abide ye here with the ass, and I and the lad will go yonder and worship."

And Abraham laid the wood for a burnt offering on his son, and took fire and a knife. "Then Isaac said, my father, behold the fire and the wood, but where is the lamb for a burnt offering?" And Abraham said, "My son, God will provide a lamb for a burnt offering." So they went both together.

14. Isaac is Preserved.

And they came unto the place which God had appointed; and Abraham builded an altar there, and laid the wood in order, and bound Isaac his son, and laid him on the altar, upon the wood. And Abraham stretched forth his hand and took the knife to slay his son.
