earth for forty days and forty nights; and all flesh died that moved upon the earth, and every man, and all that was in the dry land died. Noah only remained alive, and they that were with him in the ark.

Now the ark continued flcating on the waters, during five months; at the end of which, it rested upon the high mountain of Ararat. But Noah, and those with him, continued in the ark yet seven other months, before the earth was dried; and then, by the LORD's command, he went forth, he and all that were with him in the ark.

And Noah builded an altar, and offered sacrifice to the LORD. And the LORD blessed Noah and his sons, and said

unto them, "Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth. Every moving thing that liveth, shall be meat for you; even as the green herb, I have given you all things. But whoso sheddeth man's blood, by man shall his blood be shed.'

8. The Tower of Babel.

Noah lived three hundred and fifty years after the flood, and then died. And the Earth was at that time, all of one language and one speech. And they said one to another, "Let us build us a city and a tower, whose top may reach unto Heaven; and let us make us a name, lest we be scattered abroad upon the face of the earth. "

But the LORD confounded

their language, that they could not understand one another's speech. So, he scattered them abroad from thence over the face of all the earth; and they left off to build the city. Therefore is the name of it called Babel: because the LORD did there confound the language of all the earth.

9. The Call of Abraham.

Now the LORD had said unto Abraham, "Get thee out of thy country, and from thy kindred, and from thy father's house, unto a land that I will shew thee. And I will make of thee a great nation; and I will bless thee, and make thy name great; and in thee shall all the

families of the earth be blessed.

So Abraham departed, as the LORD had commanded; and he took Sarah his wife, and Lot his brother's son, and all their substance; and went forth to go into the land of Canaan.

And the LORD appeared unto Abraham, and said "Unto thy seed will I give this land." And there Abraham builded an altar unto the LORD, and called upon the name of the LORD.

10. Lot goeth to Sodom.

And Abraham was very rich in cattle, and in silver and gold. Lot also, who went with Abraham, had flocks, and herds, and tents. And their substance was so great, that they could not dwell together.

And there was a strife between the herdsmen of Abraham's cattle, and the herdsmen of Lot's cattle. And Abraham said unto Lot, "Let there be no strife, I pray thee, between me and thee, and between my herdsmen and thy herdsmen : for we are brethren. Is not the whole land before thee? Separate thyself, I pray thee, from me. If thou wilt take the left hand, then I will go to the right; but if thou depart to the right hand, then I will go to the left."

And Lot chose the plain of Jordan, and pitched his tent near Sodom. But the men of Sodom were wicked, and sinners before the Lord exceedingly.
