Andry believed that many of the deformities of adolescence and adult life could be traced to improper postural habits acquired during childhood, instilled by long hours of sitting on poorly designed children's furniture, and by the wearing of tight-fitting, restrictive clothing. He stressed the importance of moderate exercise in preventing deformities, and recommended that children wear sensible clothing that allowed ease of movement. For established deformities he added to this regime the use of mechanical aids, some of which are illustrated in the first volume.--J. Norman, 2006.
