SUGGESTIVE COMMENTARY. ST. JOHN. CHAPTER X. 1. Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that entereth not by the door into the sheepfold, but climbeth up some other way, the same is a thief and a robber. Verily, verily. See on John i. 51; iii. 3. No unmeaning pleonasm, but half an oath in our Lord's discourse.-Either a truth of transcendent importance to our race, or one the human heart is strongly prejudiced against.-Addressed to those who cast out the blind man from the synagogue; who declared that Jesus was not the Messiah. John ix. 22.-And that His confessors, should have neither part nor lot in the Church. They charged the Lord Himself with being "a sinner." This allegory is noted for its exquisite simplicity and imagery-true to nature.-For its unfolding the tenderest relations between Christ and His people.-It teaches that Christianity is essentially the discipleship of the heart. He that. The Lord would graciously awaken some disposed to self-knowledge, and having a craving for true spiritual sight. Entereth not. This cannot imply that the Jewish rulers were not lawfully such, but to their want of a call of far more value, a seal of Heaven.
