HOW TO USE THIS BOOK.

To Teachers and Students :

As this book may be found somewhat novel in aspect and arrangement, it will not be amiss to give a few directions which will enable both instructors and students to use it at once, without difficulty or loss of time, to the best possible purpose.

The first duty of the teacher is to read, in a loud and distinct tone, every word of the lesson which is to be studied, and to have every one repeated by the class collectively, and individually by a few single students. A correct articulation and pronunciation must be insisted. upon.

After each word is pronounced, let any student give its correct meaning in English. If none is able to do it, the teacher will give it himself. The students may write it down or trust to their memory, but the meaning of the same word should never be given by the teacher twice.) Close attention must be secured by strict individual responsibility.

The words of each lesson are numbered, the same numbers on the two columns indicating the words that should be used together in the questions and answers.
